The murders of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner, also known as the Freedom Summer murders, the Mississippi civil rights workers’ murders, or the Mississippi Burning murders, involved three activists who were abducted and murdered in Neshoba County, Mississippi in June 1964 during the Civil Rights Movement.
The book titled, Who Speaks for the Negro? was republished in 2014 by Yale University Press. Initially published in 1965, this work consists of interviews Robert Penn Warren conducted with Civil Rights Movement activists.
With honor and respect, I recreated these heartbreaking portraits, each on a specifically titled card as a tribute to these brave men.
Three Cards: 3 x5” each
Framed: 20 x 12” frame, with hand rendered charcoal on vellum
